Step by step instructions

The verb aparcar in the Pretérito Perfecto Simple tense of the Indicativo mood conjugates following the general conjugation rules for its conjugation group (-ar), although one spelling correction is necessary. The spelling corrections are in most cases not considered irregularities as they are predictable and often happen only in spelling to match the pronounced forms. Examples include changes necessary to keep the same consonant sound before the letters a/o and e/i which influence how c/z, g/gu and a few others are pronounced. Other correction types include accent changes, adding or dropping letters, etc.
The basis for this conjugation is the stem of this verb, so we begin by splitting the infinitive into a stem and an ending. It’s easy to do – just remove two letters from the end of the infinitive form to get the ending – one of -ar, -er, -ir. What’s left is the stem.

So for our verb:
  • the stem is: aparc-
  • and the ending is: -ar
Image of aparc ar
Image of aparc- Use the stem aparc- in each subject as the basis for the conjugation, the common prefix that each of the forms begins with.
Next, add to this regular stem the endings specific to each person. Analyze the image showing all six endings. Note both the colors and shapes of the letters. They are arranged to help you find patterns and make it easier to remember these endings.

Each grammatical person has a specific ending in each of the three conjugation groups -ar, -er, -ir

A spelling correction is necessary here.

Because the pronunciation is different when the letter c is followed by a/o/u and different when followed by e/i, we need to change the spelling of the stem to preserve the pronunciation of the infinitive. The letters qu when followed by e/i are pronounced like the letter c when followed by a/o/u.

So change c to qu to get aparqué

Image of -aste Similarly add the regular ending -aste for the second person singular to get aparcaste
And once more add the regular ending for the third person singular to get aparcóImage of -ó
Image of -amos And as before add the regular ending -amos for the first person plural to get aparcamos
Like previously add the regular ending -asteis for the second person plural to get aparcasteisImage of -asteis
Image of -aron Also as in the previous case add the regular ending -aron for the third person plural to get aparcaron

¡Ya está! The conjugation is now complete. But don’t end your session yet – it is very important to repeat and practice the material in order to retain it. Check below for some links.
