Learn conquistar conjugation in Pretérito Perfecto Simple step by step with detailed explanations

In this lesson we are going to learn how to conjugate the verb conquistar in the Pretérito Perfecto Simple tense of the Indicativo mood. It means we will see step by step how to get the following conjugation:

yo	conquisté
tú	conquistaste
él/ella/usted	conquistó
nosotros/nosotras	conquistamos
vosotros/vosotras	conquistasteis
ellos/ellas/ustedes	conquistaron

Step by step instructions

The verb conquistar has an entirely regular conjugation in the Pretérito Perfecto Simple tense of the Indicativo mood. It means this verb just follows the general rules for its conjugation group (-ar) without any exceptions, spelling corrections and the like.

The basis for this conjugation is the stem of this verb, so we begin by splitting the infinitive into a stem and an ending. It’s really easy to do – just remove two letters from the end of the infinitive to get the ending – one of -ar, -er, -ir. What’s left is the stem. So in case of the verb conquistar it’s easy to see that: the stem is: conquist- and the ending is: -ar

Use the stem conquist- in each person as the basis for the conjugations, the common prefix or root that each of the forms begins with.

Next, add to this regular stem the endings specific to each person. See the image on the side showing all the six endings. Note the shapes and colors of the letters. It will help you find patterns and make it easier to remember these endings. Each grammatical person has a specific ending in each of the three conjugation groups -ar, -er, -ir

Add the regular ending -é for the first person singular to get conquisté

And similarly add the regular ending -aste for the second person singular to get conquistaste

Like in the previous case add the regular ending -ó for the third person singular to get conquistó

Again add the regular ending -amos for the first person plural to get conquistamos

And add the regular ending -asteis for the second person plural to get conquistasteis

Similarly add the regular ending -aron for the third person plural to get conquistaron
