#1 Pretérito Perfecto Simple belongs to the simple tenses group, which means that all of the inflected forms are one word long. There are also compound (compuesto) tenses in the Spanish language, where each conjugated verb form consists of two words.
#2 The verb rugir has an entirely regular conjugation in the Pretérito Perfecto Simple tense of the Indicativo mood. It means this verb just follows the basic rules for its conjugation group (-ir) without spelling corrections or exceptions.
#3 The basis for this conjugation is the stem of the verb, so we begin by splitting the infinitive into a stem and an ending. It’s really easy to do. Just remove two letters from the end of the infinitive form and you have the ending — one of -ar, -er or -ir. What’s left is the stem.
#4 So for rugir:
- the stem is: rug-
- and the ending is: -ir
#5 Use the stem rug- in each person as the basis for conjugation, the common prefix that each of the forms begins with.
#6 Next, add to this regular stem the endings specific to each person.
#7 Each grammatical person has a specific ending in each of the three conjugation groups -ar, -er, -ir.
#8 Add the regular ending -í for the first person singular to create rugí:
- yo rugí
#9 Once more add the regular ending -iste for the second person singular to create rugiste:
- tú rugiste
#10 Again add the regular ending -ió for the third person singular to create rugió:
- él rugió
- ella rugió
- usted rugió
#11 Like in the previous case add the regular ending -imos for the first person plural to create rugimos:
- nosotros rugimos
- nosotras rugimos
#12 And once more add the regular ending -isteis for the second person plural to create rugisteis:
- vosotros rugisteis
- vosotras rugisteis
#13 As before add the regular ending -ieron for the third person plural to create rugieron:
- ellos rugieron
- ellas rugieron
- ustedes rugieron
