In this Spanish conjugation lesson we will see how to conjugate the verb acabar in the Condicional tense of the Indicativo mood. It means we will see step by step how to create and translate forms of each grammatical person.

How to translate Condicional to English

Notice that the English phrases provided below next to each conjugation are not direct translations from Spanish to English. They are usually the closest general equivalents. The example differences are:

• In Spanish conjugation, there is the form usted in the third person singular. But this person does not translate to the English third person singular. It translates to the so called formal you and uses the inflected form which is most often represented as he/she/it in English conjugation charts.
• Similar situation happens in the third person plural, where ustedes translates to the English plural formal you but uses the form which corresponds to the they form in English.
• Tenses are used differently in Spanish and English, so the actual translation should always take into account the context and focus on translating the meaning, not just words.
• In both languages each verb may have multiple meanings and not every meaning translates directly to the other language. Here also, the context and focusing on the particular meaning helps to create the most accurate translation.

Step by step instructions

Condicional belongs to the simple tenses group, which means that all of its conjugated forms are one word long. There are also compound (compuesto) tenses in Spanish language, where each conjugated form consists of two words.The verb acabar has a completely regular conjugation in the Condicional tense of the Indicativo mood. It means this verb follows the general rules for its group (-ar) without exceptions. The basis for this conjugation is the infinitive of this verb, so it’s really simple to create, and only a few exceptions exist.Use the infinitive acabar in each person. Next, add to the infinitive the endings specific to each person. In this tense we use the exact same endings in each of the three conjugation groups -ar, -er, -ir. Check out the image showing all the endings. Notice both the colors and shapes of the letters. It should help you find patterns and make it easier to remember these endings. Add the regular ending -ía for the first person singular to create acabaría:

• yo acabaría – I would finish

As before add the regular ending -ías for the second person singular to create acabarías:

• tú acabarías – you would finish

Like previously add the regular ending -ía for the third person singular to create acabaría:

• él acabaría – he would finish
• ella acabaría – she would finish
• usted acabaría – (formal) you would finish

And similarly add the regular ending -íamos for the first person plural to create acabaríamos:

• nosotros acabaríamos – we would finish
• nosotras acabaríamos – (feminine) we would finish

And add the regular ending -íais for the second person plural to create acabaríais:

• vosotros acabaríais – (plural) you would finish
• vosotras acabaríais – (feminine, plural) you would finish

Similarly add the regular ending -ían for the third person plural to create acabarían:

• ellos acabarían – they would finish
• ellas acabarían – (feminine) they would finish
• ustedes acabarían – (formal, plural) you would finish

This is it! The conjugation is now finished. The final result looks as follows:

yo	acabaría	I would finish
tú	acabarías	you would finish
él/ella/usted	acabaría	he/she/it would finish
nosotros/nosotras	acabaríamos	we would finish
vosotros/vosotras	acabaríais	you would finish
ellos/ellas/ustedes	acabarían	they would finish
